The Philippines has become one of the favorite destinations of all medical students who wish to pursue medicine from abroad. Students who have completed their education up till class 12, can finish their MD in Philippines in 5 and a half or 6 years.

MBBS in Philippines is divided into 2 parts – BS and MD.

The Bachelor of Science course (BS COURSE) is completed within 1.5-2 years, depending upon the university you are studying in. This step focuses on building the foundation of the students. The BS course helps students acquire a strong medical education.

During the 4 years of MD, students learn about the core medicine along with a year of clinical rotation. During the clinical rotations, students are attached to selected hospital departments and they need to treat patients under the guidance and supervision of a presently practicing doctor, who acts as their mentor and supervisor.

A lot of Indian students also get confused about the BS-MD program, and worry about appearing for MEET twice to study MBBS in Philippines. However, for your information, MCI has clarified that the NEET score is valid for 3 years for Foreign Medical Admissions. Which means, that students do not need to appear for NEET again and again.

MD Degree Recognition in Indian and abroad

The medical universities in Philippines is guarded and headed by The Commission on Higher Education Philippines (CHED), which gives approval for both public and private medical colleges in the Philippines.

In fact, MD from Philippines is equivalent to MBBS in India, in terms of value and duration. However, for international recognition, make sure to always take admission in colleges which are approved by WHO and CHED. Students who are taking admission from India also need to ensure that the medical college is recognized by National Medical Commission.

So, in a nutshell, in Philippines too, it takes about 6 years to finish the MD program which later lets you practice medicine anywhere in the world. WHO listed medical colleges in Philippines allows students to appear for licensing exam of various abroad countries like India, USA, UK, Germany, etc. Hence, a medical degree from Philippines is recognised all over the world, and takes up roughly 6 years to clear.
